Beachroad Magazine head to JBR to meet British nutritionist Tazmin Proctor, A long time visitor to Dubai.
Tazmin's passion is to help and encourage people to become the happiest & healthiest they can be and the Tazmin Proctor Recipe App goes a long way in achieving this goal.

NAME? // Tazmin Proctor

YOUR FIRST JOB? //The first job I got after I completed my work experience in school. I was involved in Sport and fitness at a young age so always knew I wanted a career in the health industry so I did my work experience in a leisure center and became a lifeguard. It wasn’t quite Baywatch but it was a job!

YOUR CURRENT OCCUPATION // My current occupation is a Health Coach. I work for a wonderful company called Tonic. They are a private weight loss clinic that operates throughout the U.K and Dubai. They literally give back lives, the success stories are phenomenal!!! When you book your surgery you then get a dietician, a psychotherapist and nurse on call for 2 years. It is great speaking to people who are so thrilled with their results, the only complaint I hear is patients wish they'd had the surgery sooner. I also have my own recipe app and health coaching business www.tazminproctor.com and I run a free empowerment Facebook page for ladies only. My life is fitness, nutrition and helping people feel the happiest and healthiest they can. I love my work.

WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO STAY, SHOP AND SOCIALIZE IN DUBAI? // When visiting Dubai, I love staying at Le Royal Meridian. I have 2 young children and I don’t like getting cabs everywhere on holiday so the location of the hotel is perfect as its situated just at the beginning of the walk. The added bonus is my favorite brunch hangout, Eggspectation is there too, delicious!!!

My socializing has somewhat changed from when I used to visit before children. I used to love Buddha Bar or Zuma for dinner then head out to whatever nightclub was good that particular night. Now it’s more about doing all the wonderful activities that Dubai has to offer. I have been visiting Dubai for 25 years as my father used to have worked there. I remember when there were only a few hotels, the growth has been immense. I feel privileged that I have been to Dubai every year for so many years to see the incredible changes.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE BEACH IN DUBAI? // I think my favorite beach would be JBR just because it’s great to run on, you have the exercise machines and also a smoothie bar for when you are finished.

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE VISIT DUBAI & WHAT ARE YOUR DUBAI TIPS? // I am always recommending Dubai to people for a holiday destination. There isn’t a place in the world that has all the incredible things to offer that Dubai has. Apart from the architecture, the sights, the great food, the phenomenal service, beautiful weather….. I could go on and on. I have had many different types of holidays there, party ones, children’s holidays and fitness and spa retreats. There is literally is something for everyone every day of the week. I remember living in London and people would rave about London but I took it for granted as I was living there. I then lived as a tourist for a week and fell back in love with the city. Sometimes I think you take for granted what is on your doorstep so you need to see the place from a different perspective and learn to love where you live and see the beauty it has to offer.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON THE HEALTH & FITNESS SCENE IN DUBAI? // Dubai has upped its game massively within the fitness industry. I remember staying in hotels and there weren’t any PT’s or boot camps. I attended a Swiss ball class once and the instructor hadn’t a clue how to take the class and didn’t look like he had ever been in a gym. Now I see the fitness industry booming there!!! State of the art gyms, the latest craze classes, lots of sporting competitions. Not only is the fitness element on the up but I see organic cafes and meal prep companies popping up similar to the ones I owned in The U.K.

It is 80%nutrition and 20%exercise. You can’t out train a bad diet so make sure you eat a nutritionally balanced diet and be mindful of your portion sizes.

YOUR GREATEST LOVE? // My greatest love is obviously my children, they are literally the beat of my heart. There is nothing I love more than being a mother. It is incredible what they teach you and how they change your whole outlook on life and the world.

I have always been driven due to my upbringing but it wasn’t until having my children I really applied myself. I want to be the best I can be as I have little eyes watching me, learning from me. I need to be the best role I can be.

YOUR GREATEST FEAR? // Wow, my greatest fear. Without being morbid not a lot scares me. I am very much of the mindset ‘what will be will be’, as long as me and my family are safe and healthy, I believe that I can deal with any other situation. Oooh actually maybe not being stuck in a room with huge cockroaches!!!!

WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY? // My earliest memory was traveling around America with my parents. I was 5-6, it was incredible! I remember visiting Florida and getting stuck on a boat in a swamp with crocodiles lurking. We visited Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. We also caught a sea Plane in the Bahamas, what a wonderful experience that time was. I had such an exciting upbringing.

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO DO ONE THING AGAIN WHAT WOULD IT BE? // Travelling around America myself and my family moved to Spain. I attended an English school but all my friends spoke Spanish and I had Spanish lessons so I naturally picked up the language. However, returning back to the U.K 3 years later at the age of 10 I forgot the majority of the language, so it is my aim one day to learn Spanish again as I would love to be bilingual. I have sent my children to Welsh school so they will both be bilingual and will find it easier to learn other languages in the future. Maybe we could all learn Spanish together?

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY? // My Role models have to be my parents. My mother was a Commonwealth athlete, had her own business at the age of 18 and is the most effortlessly beautiful woman inside and out. My father was the eldest boy of his siblings so had to start work at a very young age to help provide for the family and he hasn’t stopped working even though he could have retired many years ago. My work ethic, zest for life, parenting and the compassion for others and wanting to make a difference in people’s lives I have my parents to thank.

WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FITNESS INFLUENCE? // My Fitness role model is a fitness model, motivational speaker and author called Jennifer Nicole Lee. Jennifer is a mother of 2 and a great businesswoman. She is the person that inspired me to become a fitness model. She made me realize that you can be fit and toned but still look elegant.

WHAT HEALTH PRODUCT OR ROUTINE YOU COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT? // The health product that I am loving at the moment and am ensuring I am taking every day is my organic chlorella and Spirulina. Spirulina contains 2.5 times more protein per ounce than steak and 2-5 times more antioxidants per ounce than leading fruit and veg. A mere 30g of Chlorella has 5 times the chlorophyll content of kale and contains more iron than liver. The benefits of combining these 2 are incredible!!!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SMELL? // Fresh & clean laundry. I love walking into the house and being able to smell the clean, fresh smell.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL? // I am a grazer! I love picking at food throughout the day. So my favorite type of food has to be Tapas. I love all the different tastes in small portions. I never deprive myself of anything I want to eat but I make sure everything is in moderation.

IF YOU COULD SPEND A DAY WITH ANYONE ALIVE OR DEAD WHO WOULD IT BE? //

WHAT IS THE LAST GIFT YOU GAVE SOMEONE? // Nu Skin Age Loc Lumi Spa so I bought it for my mum last week. It launched in January and wow it is incredible! I have used Nu skin for 11 years now and it has transformed my skin so would never use anything else. As i know the product so well I have become a distributor. It great to see it transform others skin like it did mine.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE CHILDREN? // Be polite, speak nicely and correctly, have manners and help people less fortunate than you. I try to instill a great work ethic and energy into them and give them the confidence to know they can whatever they want to be as long as they put their mind to it and work hard.

A WORD YOU OVERUSE? // Probably, WOW! I speak to clients every day and am amazed to hear about their weight loss and the goals they have achieved. Also being ‘wowed’ by my children growing each and every day, they always amaze me!

YOUR WORST TRAIT? // Asking for help - I don’t like to ask for it. I’m sure if I did ask then I’m sure at times it would make my life easier. People say I’m bossy but I think they mean assertive.

THE WORST TRAIT IN OTHERS THAT GETS YOU MAD? // I detest rudeness, lateness and ignorance! Be polite, be on time and educate yourself. It is making me angry thinking about it!

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A MOVIE? // Obviously it would J-lo as I get asked all the time if I am her younger sister. HAHA

FAVOURITE MUSIC // Favorite music has to be 2000’s R’n’B. I love J-lo, Ashanti, Neyo and Aaliyah (RIP) great music to dance to and sing along in the car. As well as great memories of my more youthful days

LAST RECORD / DOWNLOAD YOU BOUGHT? // Sorry! I haven’t downloaded anything for years. I only listen to music these days in the car. I think my last download was Mariah Carey ‘All I want for Christmas’ because my son was born Christmas on day.

FAVOURITE BOOK? // I have to say my favorite book is ‘The Secret’. I know it’s been around for years but before I became a coach I hit a not very positive time in my life and reading that book, making a vision board really helped get me out of the rut I was in and that’s when I trained to be a coach. It gave me the right mindset and positive thinking that I needed. I will always love The Secret for that

THE CLOSEST YOU HAVE COME TO DEATH? // The only time I felt I was close to death was on a flight back from The Bahamas and we were in a storm. The plane kept hitting air pockets and the plane felt like it was literally dropping out of the sky. Everyone on the plane was screaming, that’s the closest I’d like to come to a near-death experience.

FAVOURITE DESTINATION? // Dubai, like I, said it has everything to offer. I don’t know another destination that has everything as Dubai has.

LEAST FAVOURITE DESTINATION? // Hong Kong, for the only reason is I am a very outdoorsy person, I love breathing in clean air and feeling refreshed. This was an impossible feeling to have in Hong Kong. I really didn’t enjoy the smog and feeling dirty all time. We just didn’t gel!

HOW DO YOU RELAX? // I enjoy spending time with my friends, whether it be relaxing in a spa or meet for brunch. I love meeting up with my girlfriends chatting for hours and laughing so much till we are crying laughing.

ARE YOU SPORTY? // Very!!! I was an athlete at a young age. Not as successful as my mother but was Champion of Wales a few times. I have recently taken up figure skating and tennis so I can do these sports with my children and I love to waterski overtime I come to Dubai. I think sport is so important, it is also a great way to learn a new skill or hobby and get fit at the same time.

BEACH OR DESERT? // 100% beach as I love the sea

URBAN OR RURAL? // I would say urban as I am partial to shopping and nights out

CATS OR DOGS? // Dogs, I have 3 and I love them like they are my children. I call them my fur-babies

COFFEE OR TEA? // I NEED my coffee 1st thing in the morning but after that its Matcha latte, green tea or de-caff

WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH? // My children make me laugh every day. I always like to go sleep after seeing something funny so my go to - is 8 of 10 cats British T.V show. I find it hilarious.

WHAT MAKES YOU CRY? // Anything to do less fortunate people or cruelty to animals makes me cry. I feed and clothe a homeless man called John, he isn't very old and it breaks my heart to see people on the streets cold knowing they are someone’s child. I do as much as I can for children charities I have a very big heart but it is weak and I feel the pain for others very easily.

YOUR FINAL MESSAGE? // Be as happy and healthy as you can be we are all very fortunate and should be grateful of the life we have been given. Live it and Love it!!!!
