Beachroad Magazine meet Jumeirah based artist and creative Taher Asad-Bakhtiari, Born in Tehran in 1982 Taher is a self taught artist whose practices focus on objects, textiles and experiences. After studyin multimedia and management in Canada and Switzerland, Taher opened a creative agency in Tehran and later in New York City. His bodies of work include "The Tribal Weave Project" and "Recovered Barrels" A metaphorical conceptualization of crude oil containers.
Hi Taher, What inspired you to start designing and any challenges along the way? //
To make a change in the craft that I use (tribal weave project). Getting the semi nomads to think out of the box and create new things
Where do you see your brand being in 5 years time? //
Having an internal weaving studio and weaving away my life.
What do you think of Dubai as a City and what is your take on its rapid growth? //
I think Dubai is a great platform in the Middle East, Its international and gives people and companies a chance to position themselves regionally and internationally. Its rapid growth is great, it just shows how advanced this place is and how long term they are thinking.
If you were not creating your works what would you be doing? //
Working out, Researching for new ideas and inspirations, Spending time with family and friends, And living life.
What do you most enjoy about designing your pieces? //
Developing a creative idea and watching the way the creativity it is interpreted by the semi-nomadic weavers when the pieces materialize.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? //
Working with people that understand the old age process and craftsmanship in creating such unique pieces and most importantly having them appreciate and respect what I bring to the craft.
