Beachroad Magazine clamber over a mountain of used aerosol cans to meet Dubai born artist and all around creative Ramy Elzaghawy

NAME? // Ramy Elzaghawy.

YOUR FIRST JOB? // I was a Publication Illustrator supervisor (aka a designer).

YOUR CURRENT OCCUPATION? // I am a full time freelance artist.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN DUBAI? // I was born and raised in Dubai

WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO EAT, SHOP AND SOCIALISE IN DUBAI? // I like eating at Dampa Seafood grill, I love shopping at Creative Minds and I like to socialize anywhere just as long as I have good company.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BEACH IN DUBAI? // The Hilton JBR and Barasti.

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON DUBAI AS A CITY AND ITS CONSTANT EVOLUTION? // I see Dubai as the Hollywood of the Middle East and I never get bored because everyday I wake up excited and see something new.

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE ART SCENE IN DUBAI AND WHICH ARTISTS EXCITE YOU? // Every piece of street art I see in UAE excites me to be honest, Art on buildings, walls in restaurants, there has been some impressive art pieces done by a collection of regional and international artists around several locations such as City Walk, Box Park, JBR, Bay Avenue, Jumeirah and across the UAE in general from Abu Dhabi to Ajman, I always get excited and impressed by artists who work on 3D art and murals from the perspective, the technique they use and the level of details intrigues me.

WHEN DID YOU REALISE THE ART WORLD WAS FOR YOU? // As a child, while watching Tom and Jerry I knew that I had to join the art world. I fell in love with ideas, the 2D animations and the colors. Step by step my art evolved from comic drawings and cartoons to realistic art and I decided to join the faculty of fine arts as I grew up.

YOUR FAVOURITE ARTIST? // Rembrandt is my favorite artist because his work is very realistic. I also admire the work of Michelangelo, especially the Sistine Chapel.

YOUR FAVOURITE GALLERY? // I don't have a specific gallery in mind that I would consider my favorite but I love how galleries change constantly and I enjoy walking into a newly changed gallery and an art piece catches my eye.

IF YOU OWNED A GALLERY WHAT WOULD YOU CALL IT? // If I owned a gallery I would name it @T.RA.MY because not only does it have my name (if you read it from left to right) but it also spells out "MY ART" (when you read it from right to left). I'm working owards branding my Instagram name.

IF YOU WERE NOT AN ARTIST WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING? // I would probably be an Olympic athlete because I used to compete at a national level and have won several gold medals and I really love sports.

IF YOU WERE ONLY ALLOWED 2 COLOURS TWO WORK WITH FOR THE REST OF TIME WHAT WOULD THEY BE? // Sepia color and turquoise.

WHAT ART DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH? // All sorts of realistic art speak to me.

WHAT PIECE OF WORK HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE? // My graduation project at university but thankfully I was awarded with distinction and it all paid off in the end.

ANY ARTWORK YOU HAVE BEEN RELUCTANT TO SELL? // I do have a piece that brings back a lot of memories so I have always been reluctant to sell it.

ART ASIDE, WHAT INSPIRES YOU? // I find inspiration in movies, the faces of people, music, meaningful
words, the interior design of any place I walk into and from the natural world that surrounds me.

WHERE IS YOUR DREAM STUDIO LOCATION? // I would love to have my studio in a location that is surrounded by a beach so that I can embrace the beauty of nature as I work on my art. I feel that my mood will always be relaxed which will support me in expressing my feelings through my art.

IF YOU COULD OWN ANY ARTWORK WHAT WOULD IT BE? // I never felt that it was reasonable to own someone else's artwork because I am an artist who is willing to challenge himself to create art that is personalized with my own feelings.

IF YOU COULD SPEND A DAY WITH ANY ARTIST ALIVE OR DEAD WHO WOULD IT BE? // Salvador Dali because I really want to figure out what sort of personality he had to create his imaginative art

YOUR GREATEST LOVE? // My parents are my greatest love.

YOUR GREATEST FEAR? // My greatest fear is to get misunderstood. I also don't like being late to any appointment.

WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY? // I remember when I was about 3 years old my uncle was ironing his
clothes and I was around him. He kept me busy and played with me at same time. He then gave me the iron to put back on the stand and when i held it, it was heavy for me so i used my other hand to hold it from bottom!! And then the party started!!

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY? // My role model would be my dad, he was an artist too and I learned a great deal from him. He taught me to follow my dreams and what I'm passionate about.

WHO IS YOUR GREATEST FASHION INFLUENCE? // No one in particular. My fashion is usually influenced by my personality.

WHAT IS THE LAST GIFT YOU GAVE SOMEONE? // I gifted someone an art portrait that I had drawn for them.
