NAME? // Dina Sami.

YOUR FIRST JOB? // DKNY kids in New York, fresh out of uni, illustrating and creating pattern designs for kids collection.

WHERE WERE YOU BORN? // In the sunny UAE.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? // Dubai.

YOUR CURRENT OCCUPATION // Art Director at UM Mena and an avid Illustrator for brands and people.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ARTIST / DESIGNER? // We are all born artists, creative and curious as kids, I just wanted to keep that part always alive by doodling, learning, and experimenting. I am fascinated by stories and never put my pen down trying to document my life in my own little way.

HOW DID YOUR STYLE OF ART/DESIGN DEVELOP? // I am very big on education, so I constantly researching and experimenting with new techniques, pens, styles to make sure I'm always diverse in my art. I used to draw with black pen only and now I bringing in color with paint, I dabble with charcoal, experimenting with lino print and love working with chalk. My lines and detailing have evolved immensely and it's awesome to see that change.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN CHALLENGES INVOLVED IN CREATING YOUR WORK? // I try to see things less like obstacles but more like lessons and new experiences. The challenges I face are the ones I set for myself. To stay fresh in the work I do. To tell stories beautifully and to collaborate with other artists.

WHICH ONE PIECE OF WORK HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE? // Illustrating the Apple mural for their biggest branch in the Middle East. It was one of the most prominent highlights of my career and an awesome opportunity to bring to life all the brands that are shaping the Creative scene in Dubai. The challenge was time. I had a lot I wanted to draw, I needed to connect each brand story and keep up with 3 different time zones, ensuring I gave each brand justice with each line to tell a full story.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST/DESIGNER BEING IN 10 YEARS TIME? // Traveling and drawing every step of the way, meeting new people, their cultures, and collaborating in various fields. I also see myself teaching creative play.

WHERE WOULD YOUR DREAM STUDIO BE LOCATED? // I'm a creative nomad that is not bound to any zip code, so my goal is not to have a studio but to travel and collaborate no matter where I am.

IF YOU WERE NOT AN ARTIST/DESIGNER WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING? // Teaching creative play for kids and adults. I have been hosting workshops and it's an awesome feeling seeing my students rekindle their creative side and just having fun, allowing themselves to think differently.

WHEN DID YOU REALISE THE ART WORLD WAS FOR YOU? // I draw my life, my stories, the people I meet and experiences I have and to see how people relate to it and enjoy what I illustrate only gave me more validation that I have a story people want to see more of.
