Beachroad Magazine meets up with DJ and Art Director Amy Wells for a coffee and Q&A session.

Hi Amy! What inspired you to start DJing and were there any challenges along the way? //
Funnily enough, my inspiration was the personal challenge to actually get myself started, and out of the typical expat lifestyle of working in the office 90% of the time. So to start something new is quite a challenge in itself, apart from the usual day to day business, I think simply being a female DJ and gaining respect from the community can be quite a challenge. When you are new on the scene with minimal experience, judgement mode is on!
I have been fairly lucky, surrounding myself with people who I call family; it's been a really chaotic journey for me and a good learning curve. All in all, it is important who you surround yourself with. A healthy circle fosters growth and progression.

Where do you play music, socialise and chill in and around our community? //
I'm a full time resident DJ of the Vibes Series crew which is also known for Night Vibes, Summer Vibes and Electric Dreams. We do a lot of pop-up parties around town; some of the many locations include 360 and Sho Cho's during the winter season. The Vibes Series, an award nominated event, is known for its alternative international underground sound in tandem with a creative space and atmosphere. An experiential concept party which sets us apart from your average club parties in Dubai. I like to take time out anywhere around Jumeirah Beach. I do a lot of outdoor training and running and there are also a lot of great restaurants and food kiosks in Jumeirah to chill.

What do you think of Dubai as a city and what is your take on its evolution? //
I've been here for almost 10 years and have witnessed Dubai growing exponentially from arid desert land to its skyscraper transformation which go hand in hand with the entertainment sector. It's great to be a part of this growth on such a scale.
